Subject Choices

To my surprise, there was a wide variety of subject choices for each education level aside from the core subjects that I was already expecting to see. I saw that Easy Peasy All In One Online Homeschool Extra-curricular subjects offered Spanish, Computer, Health, Art, Drawing and Painting, History, Language Arts, Music, Science, Bible, and Thinking. And it’s all still free!

With a wide variety of subjects to choose from, you can easily meet your state's requirement for homeschool regulation. There’s also an option to create your own course for your student to use in their curriculum. This is in the “Parent Add-Ons” section under settings.

This is great if you have a high school student that needs a college credit course or an AP level course to complete their requirements for graduation.

  1. Core Subjects V. Extracurricular Subjects

You have the option to choose which subjects to make the core subjects for each child that has an account with EP Assignments. The core subjects are available for preschool through 8th grade, and there is a separate website for high school education.

If your state is mandating that your child learn reading, writing, math, spelling, geography, history, and science then you can easily meet those requirements using this curriculum.

There is no schedule or order for which subjects need to be learned. The parent has complete authority on creating the course order and schedule.

  1. Placement Tests for Core Subjects

The placement tests are very straightforward and can be used if you are unsure which level your child may be at for reading, math, language arts, and spelling.

As they are taking the placement tests the questions get gradually more difficult until the child gets a few incorrect, and then they are placed in a certain level for that subject.

You do have the option to change the level that they were recommended to be placed in if you do not agree with the decision of the EP placements test.

  1. Changing Course Selections

Once you have taken your placement tests you can change the course selections

and lesson number if you would like to skip past anything your child already knows. This can all be completed in the parent settings section of My EP Assignments.

The courses start at beginner level up until level 8 (excluding high school), but a placement test can let you know where is the best fit for your child, if you are unsure.

Pace of curriculum

When your child starts their courses they are not being timed on the website. Everything goes at their own pace, unless you decide to time your child while they are completing each assignment.

Allotted time frame to complete subjects

For some children it may take them only 2 hours to complete all of their assigned work, while others may take 3-4 hours to complete their work. It really depends on the pace the child works at and how difficult the level of work is.

Repeating a subject or a course

If you feel as though your child has not retained the information for an assigned subject, or course, then you can have them do it again or lower the level if the information was too difficult to comprehend. This can happen at any time during the school year. You don’t have to let your child struggle through the year before deciding.

Adding on courses

On the flip side, if your child is interested in another subject to add to their curriculum, then you can add a course of choice very easily. As I mentioned earlier, this can be a course that the parent would like to add, or it can be a course that’s offered by Easy Peasy.

Ease of Use

Signing in and creating an account

I found this part fairly simple and straightforward to do. I just went to the website and clicked on the “My EP” tab on the top of the page and created an account. I learned that as long as you fully read the website pages and don’t skim, then you shouldn't have any complications.

There are also lots of instructional videos on the website in case you get stuck. There’s also a video that shows you how to add My EP Assignments to your computer homepage.

Adding multiple students and tracking their progress

I enjoyed this part of creating an account since I was able to add all of my children under one account. I was also able to track what they completed for the day and add whether it was actually completed or needed work.

In the parent settings section I was able to add their courses and change their lesson numbers based on how they scored on the placement tests, and their interest level in the extracurricular subjects available.

Buying workbooks V. printing them

There were certain subjects that were available for purchase as a workbook through their store, or you can print them. Some subjects require this additional information, so I looked into this ahead of time before the first day of school.

The store was fairly easy to navigate and finding which workbooks matched which course was also easy. The cost of the workbooks are very affordable as well.

There’s also the option to print as you go throughout the school year if you would rather do that. The printing is free from their website, but you will need to pay for the ink or paper used at a place like Staples or your home printer.

Child Independence

I must say, if your child is able to navigate a computer independently already, then they will have no problem doing these tasks independently. However, there is a good amount of instructional reading for the daily lessons prior to starting the lessons. This is where your child may need help if they are not a strong reader.

System for Completing Tasks

I noticed that there are points given to your child for each subject lesson completed, and this seemed to motivate my kids. It made them feel good to see their points increasing as they progressed further into the courses.

Since this works, maybe a sticker chart may work for your child, or the points earned may be enough motivation. Every kid is different.

Record Keeping

Tip on keeping track of their completed daily tasks per subject

The only downfall to using Easy Peasy All In One Online Curriculum is that there is no tracking of your child’s progress. The most information that you get is a summary of what the lesson was that your child completed.

Due to this I suggest keeping a close eye on your child while they do the course work so you can tell how long it takes them, whether they are getting a lot incorrect, etc.

This will give you a better idea regarding their comprehension of the material. Also, having a portfolio checklist so that you have an idea of what to keep for record keeping for your child’s annual review.

Grading

Nope. There are no grades kept through Easy Peasy. You will need to grade your child yourself, as the instructor. You are just using the curriculum. It is not considered an online school.

Progress reports

This is another thing you will have to self reproduce, probably every 3-6 months to monitor your child’s progress. These are good to keep for yourself even if your state doesn’t mandate it.

Is Easy Peasy All In One Homeschool For You And Your Family?

The best part about the program is that it is 100% free and will stay that way until the indefinite future. It is a great curriculum to get started with and not have to worry if your child is up to standard. The curriculum was created for Pennsylvania state regulations and has great reviews on the website that rave about their child’s success after using the program.

I still think the best way to find out if this free program is for you is to simply try it out for yourself. You have nothing to lose. So, are you going to try it? If you do leave a comment below with your experience. I would love to hear how it has worked for your family.
